Situation : Ethan taking grapes from the fridge while mommy cooks dinner. Pulls all grapes from the stem and throws them around the living room floor. Daddy comes in to see 3 yr old + messy grape floor+ mommy not watching 3 yr old cooking and asks...
Daddy: Who threw the grapes all over the floor?
Ethan: Gavin did it.
Daddy turning to mommy: Did Gavin throw the grapes on the floor?
Mommy: Nope, that would be Ethan.
Daddy turning to Ethan: Did you throw the grapes on the floor?
Ethan: Nope, it was Gavin.
Daddy: Ethan, I need you to tell me the truth or you are going to your room, who threw the grapes on the floor?
Ethan: It was Gavin
Daddy takes 3 yr old and puts him in his room, waits a few minutes for 3yr old to calm down, goes in and gives him a pep talk about telling the truth and asks, "who threw the grapes on the ground'?
Ethan: "It was Chase"
Daddy leaves 3 yr old in room to calm down again and think about telling the truth. Daddy comes into kitchen informing Mommy that 3 yr old is blaming his friends for his actions and not telling the truth. Mommy suggests asking 3 yr old if he threw the grapes on the ground thinking 3 yr old may get confused thinking Daddy is playing "who stole the cookie from the cookie jar" game. Daddy says 3yr old is not confused, and goes back in one more time to give 3 yr old the chance to tell the truth.
Daddy: Ethan you need to tell me the truth, did you throw the grapes on the ground?
Ethan: What does tell the truth mean?

My friend tells her little boy that there are cameras in their house and she can "check the cameras" anytime she needs to, to find out the truth. Sure...she's lying to him to get him to not lie to her, but you've gotta do what you've gotta do!
I love how he's guilty but so innocent at the same time. Happy Birthday to Ethan too. It was fun all of the fun facts you posted about him.

That is so funny! I think sometimes we don't realize how smart kids are! But on the flip side, sometimes I think we expect them to understand concepts that are little too much for them and need to be explained!! That is a funny little lesson for all of you!!! That little Ethan has got some personality!!!
Truth-telling is a pretty abstract concept. More important than who threw those grapes is this: who's going to clean them up?
